Forgot to add that this domain will soon come to an end so the site will be moving to a new domain in the next few days.

I'll leave a forwarding address.

21 February 2007

Well we've all been apart doing different things over the break. Obviously we are waaaaaay behind predicted schedule. So we have to get moving!.

The rough edit has come in around four and a half minutes too long. This means that some savage cuts have to occur, and unfortunately the battle scenes are going to suffer the most.

These scenes are visual candy not really critical to the story overall so they will be trimmed.

This is the worst part of film-making. So much beautiful footage has to be sacrificed. It's really difficult, but it has to be done.

I'll contact everyone soon to fill them in where we are at.

19 November 2006

The best shoot of the whole film. We managed to spend some time in getting the best from our actors in the scenes that make or break the film.

Everybody performed magnificently. A big congratulations to everyone involved.

This was the final day of principal shooting. We will have a day of pickups and some extra Green Screen shots.

From here we are going into post production with all of the mattesm effects and compositing. We estimate having a final cut around mid February 2007.

05 November 2006

Great shoot yesterday. We started on some of the major scenes and everyone performed really well. We have some really good footage. Particularly good shots from our principle cast.

Hopefully we will shoot the night scenes around the stones in the next few weeks.

Some new photos from this shoot are in the Galleries.

03 October 2006

Conditions have improved and we are hoping to film several scenes on Saturday 4th November. This will just leave the evening and the night scenes to complete the filming.

14 August 2006

Well we are pretty much just waiting on the weather to become suitable for a day and a night shoot. Hopefully it will happen soon. We are so far behind the original schedule.

The first scene has been almost fully edited. It's looking great, and Jill Lamshed's haunting voice singing the opening song really gives mood to the scene.

25 June 2006

We're about to move house. This means that we will be offline until we can be connected at our new address.

I hate moving. Be back hopefully soon.

10 June 2006

The Dagger has arrived and it is a real beauty. You can see it in the Props Section under Maiden's Dagger.

The weather has taken a turn for the worse, it has been down to nearly zero degrees at night at our preferred shooting location.

I can't ask the actors to do a night shoot under these conditions, so delays, delays, delays.

15 May 2006

Everyone has been busy in the past few weeks.

Our Maiden actress Britt has appeared in a movie (filmed on the same day as our battle scenes)

Director Peter Richards has won a role on a film about to shoot. This will cause minor delays for us.

Look closely at a few new TV Commercials. You may just see our 2nd AD Eddie in his element. Hint - Beer battered chips and Xerox copy paper.

My own appearance in an RACV commercial has been back on screen. I'm dressed in Collingwood colours to my eternal embarrassment.

29 April 2006

What a fantastic day! Everyone had a great time. The filming went exceptionally well, and the combatants were a real pleasure to meet and work with.

By the day's end we were physically exhausted, but the results are excellent. Can't wait to start cutting it together.

See some photos in the Battle Scenes Galleries.

Special thanks to:

Damien from Pizza Hut who organised a great deal for us on catering.

Wayne from Neverfail who likewise gave us a great deal on water.

27 April 2006

Most of the preparations for Saturdays filming are completed. Final costume adjustments are under control. Catering is organised. Equipment is ready. Weather is holding.

We are using two crews to film the battle scenes. Add a variety of equipment and FX shots and all should be wonderful.

25 April 2006

Anzac Day. After the ceremonies we went down to a local river area and filmed some segments of the opening and closing scenes. It's great to be underway.

My airbrush's compressor died about three quarters of the way through completing the final stone monolith.

14 April 2006

Confirmation. We will begin shooting the battle scenes on Saturday the 29th April 2006. All is ready, and only bad weather will stop us.

07 April 2006

We have set a tentative date to begin filming the battle scenes. Just awaiting confirmation from the combatants.

01 April 2006

Just finished applying the final coat of airbrushing to the Sarcophagus. It looks fantastic if I do say so myself. It has come up so much better than I had visualised.

However, you who are not connected to the film will see nothing of it until after the completion of the filming.

Sorry - some things just have to remain a mystery.

10 March 2006

We just stumbled across a sale at our local Lincraft store. Tons of expensive linen (summer colours) all on sale to clear the floorspace.

Needless to say we purchased some of just about every colour.

Now we are several hundred dollars poorer, but have a room full of linen for any future projects.

15 Feb 2006

Still hard at work behind the scenes. It's all coming together though. I'm getting a bit concerned about the grass at several locations, it is drying up and turning dead brown. Very un-medieval Europe.

06 Jan 2006

Work on the Costumes and the Sets are progressing quite well, after the interruprion of Christmas.

Despite having the numbers, we still haven't finalised all of the crew roles as yet. Some crew members are going to work in roles outside of their expertise, just to try new things.

Nov 2005

Due to work commitments we have decided to postpone the filming of "The Maiden" until late Feb 2006. This date seems to fit the cast and crew a whole lot better.

And we will be past the heat of high summer hopefully.

Damn life, gets in the way of making movies.
